Sage Hill Mercantile was born from one horse, one problem, and the realization that traditional gear often isn’t good enough.

In 2022, after returning to riding, our founder Ondine found herself searching for products that could truly meet the needs of her thoroughbred, Bob Daniels. He was deemed a "challenging horse" who was really just a sensitive guy. Ondine found that the only way she was able to make progress with him was to simply listen. When he didn't like the noseband, it came off. When he didn't like the fancy leather girth, she switched to one with extra gussets. Some products were able to fill the needs, but others either did not exist, or were hard to source. For those items, she made her own.

What started as a solution for one horse became a brand built around a simple idea: in order to be true partners with your horse, you must listen and respond to their needs.

Every product we create is rooted in real experience, made to solve practical problems, and designed to support the everyday realities of life at the barn. Just simple well made essentials that do their job.

Today, after living by this philospophy, Ondine and Bob are partners in every sense. They spending their days jumping, trail riding, and continuing to shape the products we create.
